Why Ergoseal Employees Stay: Loyalty, Longevity, and Impact

Written by Ergoseal | Dec 12, 2024 5:46:31 PM

In an industry often challenged by high turnover rates and a competitive labor market, Ergoseal stands out. With remarkably low turnover and a team of long-tenured employees, we’ve built more than just a workplace — we’ve cultivated a community.

Named one of the “Chicago’s Best and Brightest Companies” multiple times, Ergoseal exemplifies what it means to invest in people, foster loyalty, and give back to the community.

A Unique Challenge in Manufacturing

The manufacturing sector is no stranger to workforce challenges. According to industry data, turnover rates in manufacturing often hover around 39.9% annually according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. For companies like Ergoseal, where precision and expertise are critical to success, keeping skilled employees is more than just a nice-to-have — it’s essential.

Yet, we have defied the odds. Our low turnover and high employee retention set them apart in the industry and directly impact their ability to deliver exceptional quality and service.

What Makes Ergoseal Different?

At the heart of Ergoseal’s success is its culture. With 44% of the team staying for more than ten years (and 16% surpassing the 20-year mark!), it’s clear our employees don’t just come to work; they thrive. Here’s what some of our team members have to say:

“The company culture is refreshingly devoid of politics and energy wasted in pursuits unaligned with customer needs,” says Ryan Neris, Director of Engineering. “Everyone is invested in making the company a healthier environment and producer for maximizing customer satisfaction.”

Account Manager Bryan Kreager also cites company culture as a reason for his long tenure.

“The leadership team has worked to consistently improve the culture in the last 10 years.  Even on the hard days, Ergoseal feels like a good place to work. The focus on the core values is one of the reasons people stay,” he says.

Key to our approach is ensuring every employee feels valued, whether through career development opportunities, recognition programs, or simply fostering a sense of belonging. For production staff, engineers, and interns alike, Ergoseal offers a workplace where people are encouraged to grow.

“After 10 years, it still feels there are ways to learn and advance,” says Kreager. “After a couple of years of feeling like I was stuck in Assembly with no room for advancement beyond team lead, a position opened in customer service. I was able to move departments, and it gave me room to learn more about Ergoseal and no longer feel stagnant in my role.”

Neris’ experience with moving up in the company was similar.

Ergoseal gave me the opportunity to work while going to Engineering school and training up to serve in the Engineering department. Since then, Ergoseal has afforded continual opportunities for personal and professional growth.

Ergoseal has supported various educational and training opportunities, promoted me to various leadership positions offering many learning experiences, and allowed me to network and travel globally,” Neris says.

This employee-focused culture is more than a philosophy; it’s backed by meaningful action.

Building Careers, Not Just Jobs

One of the ways Ergoseal retains its talent is by investing in them. From training opportunities to career advancement paths, employees are given the tools to excel. And it starts young — Ergoseal’s internship program partners with local schools to help students explore careers in engineering and manufacturing.

"Bringing high school and college interns into Ergoseal is vital to cultivating the next generation of talent in engineering, manufacturing, and customer service. By offering hands-on experience and mentorship, we not only help students grow professionally but also ensure a steady pipeline of new talent for our industry," says Chris Verni, Chief Operations Officer.

And the dedication to building a stellar workforce continues throughout team members’ careers.

“There is flexibility with an appreciation for unique talents to thrive in achieving goals creatively,” Neris points out. “Ergoseal supports professional development plans and rewards adherence to well-identified core values.”

Kreager echos that, noting that Ergoseal leadership is “always willing to support further training if there is interest.”

A Culture of Giving Back

Ergoseal’s commitment to its people extends beyond its walls and into the community. Every year, the company leads initiatives such as:

  • Organizing food drives to support local families.
  • Hosting a giving tree to provide holiday gifts to those in need.
  • Offering internships that open doors for area students.

For employees, these efforts foster pride and deepen their connection to the company. When people see their workplace making a difference, it inspires them to stay.

Why It Matters

This culture of loyalty and service is not just good for employees — it’s good for business. Low turnover means Ergoseal retains deep institutional knowledge and builds strong, cohesive teams. The result? Consistently high-quality products and exceptional customer satisfaction.

“You can sense your impact internally and with customers very soon and palpably,” Neris notes.

When employees are engaged and committed, it shows in the work they do. Ergoseal’s success as a manufacturer of fluid seals is proof that investing in people pays off.

A Model for the Industry

In an era where high turnover is often considered the norm, Ergoseal stands out. By prioritizing its people, fostering a sense of community, and giving back, the company has built a workplace that employees are proud to call home. Kreager sums it up nicely:

“Ergoseal is a great place to work …The focus is on getting the right people in the right seats so they can succeed. It is a rare thing to be set up for success these days.”
